Liz MacLeod is the Chief Executive of the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) in Western Australia. In her role, Liz leads a team of more than 10,000 staff to deliver health services, from population-based prevention programs through to tertiary level hospital services, serving more than 740,000 people in Perth’s eastern metropolitan region.
Liz has a special interest in dementia care delivery and since 2019, has spearheaded a program to transform EMHS into the first dementia-friendly metropolitan health service in Australia. This has involved targeted change in clinical areas such as the emergency department and older adult mental health ward, as well as developing purpose-built spaces and services to accommodate the specific needs of people living with dementia.
With a background in Allied Health and more than 20 years’ management experience in the health sector, Liz is passionate about the delivery of safe, high quality, consumer-centred amazing care, financial performance and sustainability.
She is also proud to lead a health service that is committed to providing programs that positively enable people living with dementia to live a better life.
Our thanks to East Metropolitan Health Service, WA – Royal Perth Hospital, Bentley Hospital and Kalamunda Hospital – for allowing us to showcase some of their dementia-friendly services.
